PA SYSTEMS, SOUND AND COMMUNICATIONS - Glossary
We have all experienced the application of public address systems at one time or another in our day-to-day life. We see / hear Public.Address systems in use in hotels, football grounds, shopping centres, banks, Post Offices, supermarkets, offices, factories concerts to name but a few.

240VAC or 24VDC - Unit can be powered by either 240 volts main or 24 volts DC for emergency battery support in the event of mains failure.
BGM Input - Input for background music (BGM)
DIN Plug - Din standard plugs used throughout the audio industry, found on equipment carrying Microphone or Line Level signals for example found on amplifiers, mixers and CD players.
LED Bar - More common now than a VU meter, shows the sound level as a set of illuminated colored LED's normally running from red to green with red being the peak or over-load.
Ohm - Measurement of electrical resistance for example used to show the impedance of a Loudspeaker coil.
PSU - Power Supply Unit used to produce AC or DC supply to a piece of electrical equipment.
Spearker Tapings - All 100 volt loudspeakers have multi power settings e.g. 6 watt, 3 watt, 1.5 watt and 0.75 watt.
VOX - Voice operated input, for example with a microphone plugged into the input you can speak into the microphone and the input will open automatically.
VU Meter - Sound level meter found on the front panel of Amplifiers and Mixers for example.
XLR Plug - XLR Plugs and sockets are more heavy duty than DIN plugs used for audio signals and loudspeaker connections found on amplifiers, mixers and loudspeakers, very common in the Audio Hire business.
